What was the issue?
On the 1st January 2016 UN launched Sustainable Development Goals initiative with 17 goals to transform our world. Stakeholders of this initiative had macro data, but little micro-data to help implementation with how, where, when and why. In addition, budgets limited the gathering of data and insights. This is where Paragon Partnerships came in. What if a network of bodies could power the UN SDGs with micro data and insights, gathered and analyzed, pro bono by MR industry and corporations?
What was achieved?
Governments have tasked NSOs to gather data & measure their progress in SDGs. However, NSOs aren`t always funded enough to get to the required data, or they are not agile and nimble enough to do it in the most efficient way.
The issue facing NGOs is that they have access to macro level data on issues facing communities. These are usually Government published stats e.g. # of toilets per 1000 people, etc. While this macro data is good, NGOs can be more effective if they have access to micro level data but NGOs don’t have the financial means to commission surveys.
Academia has the smartest thinkers capable of analyzing the causes of the challenges facing humanity. But they are not always funded to do MR.
That is where Paragon comes in. In every quant study we do around the world as an industry, we add 2-3 key questions and collect data. When this is done over time, we can generate very rich data. Clients and research agencies have enthusiastically embraced this initiative.
How ?
We worked closely with SDG Action Campaign within UNDP and helped them with several researches and tracking of SDG awareness and improvements in several countries around the world.
We also contacted NGOs and helped them with their data and market research needs to feed into their communication and lobbying work.
Several agency partners in our network volunteered to take on these work, including pro bono fieldwork, analysis and presentations.
