In 2016 the MRS Delphi Group\u00a0issued a report<\/a> on the characteristics of insight-driven\r\norganisations and created a framework\u00a0enabling organisations to benchmark their<\/strong>\r\nteams <\/strong>against these characteristics.\r\n\r\nThe findings of the MRS Delphi report provided\u00a0further evidence that the insight function must prove\u00a0its value to the organisation by creating a unified\u00a0vision of qualitative research and big analytics<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a proactive narrative for the board and other\u00a0stakeholders.\u00a0Kantar Vermeer\u2019s \u2018Insights 20:20\u2019<\/a> found an\u00a0unambiguous connection between commercial\u00a0success and customer-centricity. The MRS Delphi\u00a0Report delved deeper into what an effective insight\u00a0team looks like and how it operates within successful\u00a0private and public sector organisations.\r\n\r\nThe findings of MRS Delphi research served\u00a0as a wake-up call to the sector<\/strong>. While it was\r\nencouraging to see that 72% of participants claim\u00a0their organisation uses insight to drive decision\u00a0making, only 4% identified themselves as working\u00a0within a fully-fledged insight driven organisation.\r\n\r\nWhat\u2019s more, only 17% \u2018proactively\u2019 championed\u00a0<\/strong>the customer voice<\/strong>. Based on a smaller sample\u00a0than the Insight 20:20 report, the MRS Delphi\u00a0findings were still indicative of a sector that has\u00a0some way to go before it can move finally and\u00a0fundamentally away from a support and service\u00a0role. The MRS\/PwC market sizing report, Business\u00a0of Evidence 2016<\/a>, identified data analytics and\u00a0qualitative research as the two growth areas within\r\ninsight. The two need each other. Qualitative\u00a0techniques create the context and framework for\u00a0organisations\u2019 data resources. Such frameworks not\u00a0only explains data but identifies the numbers that are\u00a0really relevant and, by creating a cohesive picture\u00a0prevent users from getting lost in a warren of ever\u00a0multiplying data wormholes.\r\n\r\nBy identifying lead indicators, which may or may\u00a0not be generated from standard (and necessarily\u00a0historic) performance metrics, we enable\u00a0management to have future proofing discussions\u00a0and identify risk and opportunity on the horizon<\/strong>.\u00a0In this data-driven era businesses are looking for the\u00a0expertise and professionalism that exists within the\u00a0research and insight sector.\r\n\r\nAs the MRS\/PwC Business of Evidence 2016\u00a0report concluded, the researcher of the future\r\nmust combine a flexible early adopter mind\u00a0set, business acumen, good communications\u00a0<\/strong>and sound data analysis skills<\/strong>.
